A little while ago in the chatroom I was talking to a visitor about the Self.
At some point in the conversation, I asked him, “What would be left of who you are if you weren’t a Moslem, weren’t a father, and weren’t a business executive?”
He sounded shocked – even in typing! – and said “but there would be nothing left of me.”
My response was that there would be nothing left of himself, and there would be everything left of himSelf. His task (and yours) is to contemplate carefully on the idea that these ideas he has of what makes him who he is, are actually limitations on his spiritual freedom.
In what way are you defining yourself in the world? Whatever the answer is, is a limitation you are placing on yourSelf.
