I wake up early, and drive to work on quiet roads, arriving at about 7.45am usually. On the way I will usually sing a cleansing Mantra. I park a little way way, in the car park, facing East towards the rising sun, and will do a world-healing meditation for Self and others for about 15 minutes, followed by whatever other meditation is scheduled. I finish when my watch alarm goes off at 8.55am, and drive the short distance to work in time to clock on at 9.
When my work permits a lunchtime away, I return to the car and meditate there for most of the time. More often, I will sit quietly out of the way and eat my lunch with as much awareness as I can bring to it. At work my body-brain is distracting and it is difficult to maintain awareness, however there are opportunities to re-centre and become aware when eating, drinking, and going to the toilet. To help make these touchstones, a regular schedule is adopted. There are disruptions, but having a schedule is better for me than not having.
I return home in the car after work, driving and listening to music. Once home, my wife and I have our evening meal, another touchstone for awareness, and I will spend some time on this blog absorbing what awareness I can from here, too. The time I spend on this blog (and in DC’s chatrooms) when they are running are enormously powerful. Writing these short paragraphs is a powerful touchstone, and my spiritual diary which fulfils a similar purpose. The earlier my body goes to bed the better for it – It is said that every hours rest before midnight is worth two hours after, and my body will agree with that.
And if we choose to make love, that is a further great opportunity for awareness, as well as for opening and developing the body’s natural power source.
Not every day is as structured as this, although structure allows the touchstones to be used to best advantage. And there are others: monthly, three monthly, and annually, celebrations major and minor which also help, just as the great festivals are designed to help in the various religions.
It has taken years to develop this beneficial routine, and it is still developing.
