Like all the regular readers here, I have looked open mouthed at the various adverts that Corvus has posted over the past few weeks. The slimming ad was particularly memorable, but the cigarette ads are frankly astonishing.
Cigarette advertisers were cute, though: they knew what sold their products, what would persuade the newbie to smoke, as well as what would persuade the smoker to change brands.
I take great trouble now not to fall asleep with commercial radio or tv playing: first my body would be lulled into a hypnotic state, then the suggestion would be implanted. My body might start wanting a new Mercedes-Benz like Janis Joplin, or (more reasonably) cosmetic surgery.
Advertising is a method by which our brains can be persuaded to alter their load of baggage, the script, the conditioning. The alert seeker will be aware that self-advertising is a powerful tool in an armoury. Lose no opportunity to advertise to your body that you are succeeding in your spiritual endeavours, and use the language and the behaviours of a successful seeker, which reflect the more aware state sought.
If persuasion that smoking fewer longer cigarettes is better for us than more shorter ones works, then surely we can persuade our bodies of anything.
Our bodies/brains need to believe in a more realistic view of the universe and our Selves than that which is currently being acted out. The language and behaviour we permit our bodies to use, is advertising to us continuously.
